Laser hair Removal
Laser hair removal is designed to permanently remove unwanted body hair by using the light energy from a laser.Unwanted hair is a common problem in women and men. Shaving, waxing, and tweezing only produce temporary results and can generally only be carried out on relatively small areas.
A Delicate Balance
The tricky part of laser hair removal is targeting the hair shaft without damaging the melanin pigment in the skin itself. Thus, the laser light has to be on long enough to heat the hair, but not too long to allow that heat to spread to the surrounding skin, where it could cause damage. The darker a patient’s skin, the more difficult it is to avoid this kind of injury to the surface of the skin. For this reason, three different types of lasers have been developed for hair removal. Which type your physician will recommend for you will depend on the both the thickness of your hair and the color of your skin.
What is involved with laser hair removal?
The area is shaved and cleaned, and an anaesthetic cream applied. The laser then produces pulsed beams of highly concentrated light which is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles, damaging the surrounding follicle.
How many treatments will I need?
Most people benefit from a series of three to seven treatments, spaced at four- to eight-week intervals. After the initial series of treatments, the hair in a given area is usually reduced in both amount and thickness for a very long period of time. However, it may not be completely gone. To keep an area completely devoid of hair, maintenance treatments are almost always required. Fortunately, maintenance treatments can usually be administered at ever-increasing intervals. Eventually, they may be needed only once a year, or even less often. How frequently you'll need to return for treatments will depend on the area of your body being treated as well as on certain charactistics about your hair. Everybody is different
