Laser hair Removal
If you're tired of shaving all the time, and you're not ready to take the laser-hair-removal plunge, waxing is your next best option for hair-free legs. We asked beauty guru Gee Margi of Baroness Beauty in Sydney's Double Bay (02 9328 4359) how to pull off waxing like a pro.1. Exfoliate your skin the day before waxing to remove dead cells, which will inturn help avoid ingrown hair.
2. Just before waxing, powder your skin, as this will, ''make the wax stick to the hair and not your skin,'' explains Margi.
3. Heat your wax according to the directions on the package. Make sure it's not too hot by testing the temperature before smearing onto your skin.
4. Apply the wax with a spatula in the same direction that the hair grows. Make sure the area you cover is the same size as the strip you'll place over the top. ''Wax section by section,'' advises Margi. ''Don't apply the wax all over the leg and then start ripping off.''
5. Once you've placed the cloth over wax, rub it firmly, and hold your skin taught before ripping off. Pull the strip quickly in the opposite direction of the hair growth, and don't pull upwards, pull it along the skin so as not to snap the hair.
6. Once you've finished waxing, remove any excess wax with an appropriate product. Don't have one? Margi says olive oil will do the trick. Follow with a soothing after-wax cream or lotion, but skip products containing alcohol or perfumes as they may irritate your skin.
7. ''If your skin is prone to getting spots after waxing, it's best to have a cool shower and wash the skin straight away just using cool water,'' explains Margi.
8. To further help avoid ingrown hairs, be sure to exfoliate your skin regularly post-waxing. Wait at least a day before using a scrub, brush or exfoliating mitt on the area, and follow with a moisturiser while your skin is still damp.
