Beauty Tips
Hiding behind a huge pair of celebrity style dark shades may seem the only way of camouflaging tired eyes, but the outlook can be bright. Here we take a peek at the eye-deal treatments.
Elizabeth Arden's Ceramide Plump Perfect Ultra Lift and Firm Eye Cream SPF15, £37Zap Crow's Feet
A few crinkles around the eyes are sexy, but nobody wants a murder of crow's feet! With skin around the eyes as delicate as tissue paper, it's an area that requires TLC. As Tony Vargas, vice president of research and development at Elizabeth Arden, explains: "Everything that challenges the skin as you get older is even more true for the eye area, which is thinner, dryer and more fragile than skin elsewhere on the body."An everyday moisturiser is too heavy to use around the eye and can cause puffiness and irritation. Eye creams are specifically created to include fewer oils and formulated to be rapidly absorbed. The newest go-to-eye treatments include:
* Elizabeth Arden's Ceramide Plump Perfect Ultra Lift And Firm Eye Cream SPF15, £37. Lightweight yet intensive, 85 per cent of testers said it minimised the look of lines, wrinkles and crow's feet.
* Elemis Pro-Intense Eye And Lip Contour Cream, £57. Perfect for computer-squinting eyes. Scientifically proven plant stem cells help to re-densify thin skin around the eyes and lips.
* L'Oreal Collagen Micro-Vibration Eye, £16.99. The smoothing formula gives wrinkles the brush off whereas the vibrating massage targets bags.
RapidLash, £39.99Strengthen Lashes
Take one set of thinning lashes and grow! Eyelash curlers, aggressive make-up removers, eyelash tints and false eyelash glue can all affect the condition of our lashes leaving them depleted and weak. Just arriving on our shores from the US and already creating a waiting list is RapidLash, £39.99 (available from Boots nationwide). It's causing a flutter as it's proven to achieve up to 50 per cent longer looking natural lashes from just eight weeks. Form an orderly queue ladies!
Lengthen Lashes
A tsunami of incredible do-it-all mascaras has hit the market but application is still the foundation of working a great lash. Make-up artist Daniel Sandler gives us his masterclass.
"Curl your lashes," he says. "They make lashes look longer and bigger which means you wear less mascara. Place curler near the lash line and squeeze for about six seconds."
Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Mascara, £7.99Daniel favours the metal curlers over the plastic ones. "Apply mascara with short jagged motions, taking the brush along the length of the lashes," Daniel explains. "Pay special attention to the outer lashes. These are the ones that act as the real eye-openers. Apply to the top of the roots as this doubles up the lashes for a false lash effect. Finally, comb from root to tip until lashes look like petals around the eyes."
Try:
* Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Mascara, £7.99. Just the name has us hooked. The brush is shaped like an S to hold more formula and gives up to 70 per cent longer lashes.
* Lancome Hypnose Precious Cells, £22, is the first magnified volume cream mascara to help regenerate lash condition for come hither volume and lengthening.
Clinique's All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage, £20Pep And Wake Up
Early mornings and late nights mean that tired-looking eyes are a permanent fixture. Apart from the cold teabag trick, palming can be a great way to relax pooped eyes. To do it, sit down with elbows firmly on a table and close your eyes. Cover them completely with the palms of your hands to create darkness. Breathe slowly for five minutes. It's simple, but really acts like yoga for the eyes leaving them rested. To save time, wake up and go with Clinique's All About Eyes Serum De-Puffing Eye Massage, £20. The stainless steel rollerball increases micro-circulation, helping to reduce any stagnate fluid which has collected underneath the eye-causing puffiness.
Daniel's Eye Delight Loose Eye Shadow, £10Add Some Sparkle
Take note that dark shadows and heavy kohl rimmed eyes can make them appear tired and heavy. Daniel suggests sticking with lighter colours to pop the eye. To give an airbrushed effect he first suggests evening out the skintone and reducing any redness by applying a concealer to the top of the eyelids and under the eyes. Bobbi Brown's Tinted Eye Brightener, £22, is lightweight and instantly brightens.
Next, sweep a fresh colour across the lid. Daniel believes that a soft lilac suits all skin tones. "For a really amazing eye, turn up the volume by applying a soft silver under the brow bones to catch the light. Dab into the corners of the inner eyes too," he says.
Daniel's Eye Delight Loose Eye Shadow, £10 (beautique.com), in silver can be used for super-accentuation.
Bobbi Brown's Eye Makeup Remover, £14.50A Clean Sweep
Apart from saving your pillow from mascara smudges, removing your make-up makes for good eye hygiene. Make-up artist Bobbi Brown reveals her best technique: "Take a cotton pad, dampen with remover and rest it gently around the closed eye. Wipe gently. Do not tug or pull on the eye. Repeat with a fresh pad until it comes away clean. Rinse the eye area with warm water."
Try Bobbi Brown's Eye Makeup Remover, £14.50, which boasts Aloe Vera to calm, and rosemary extract to leave eyes refreshed. Plus, it leaves no oily residue.
