So many mascaras promise to volumise lashes, but which ones actually deliver?
This week we've been busy testing a range of volumising mascaras, so let us try before you buy.
Read our reviews to see which products are worth splashing out on.
RIMMEL 1-2-3 Looks Adjustable Volume Mascara
Helen RussellRimmel 1-2-3 Looks Adjustable Volume Mascara, £7.98
Tested by: Helen Russell, EditorVerdict: This 3-in-1 mascara looks wonderfully retro and 80s but the concept is anything but. The idea is that by harnessing the whizzkiddery of the latest cosmetics technology, one mascara can give you a variety of looks, from defined lashes, to extra volume, to high-octane glamour. The makers even suggest that the mascara can give lashes up to 10 times more volume. I read the directions carefully, including the various safety stickers warning me about the perils of twisting the cylinder too far, and applied level one. So far, so good. Level two just looked like a second layer of normal mascara and my lashes looked thicker and more defined. And level three? Well, this was where my lashes began to clump together leaving me looking less Cheryl Cole and more Twiggy circa 1966. I love idea of a 3-in-1 volumising mascara, but it's not quite there yet. 3/5Stockist: Savers health and beauty stores nationwide. www.savers.co.uk
NL Mascara from Nouveau Lashes
Dalia SmetanaNL Mascara from Nouveau Lashes, £15.99
Tested by: Dalia Smetana, JournalistVerdict: Mascara may not get you too excited but I defy any lady who says she doesn't want thicker and longer-looking eyelashes. Nouveau Lashes Noir Mascara comes with a host of promises, the main one being that it will create a false-lash effect from just one application which will then last all day long. I was immediately drawn in at the thought of such a miracle wand and straight away applied it. Amazingly, I think it really does do what it says on the bottle. My eyelashes definitely looked thicker and as I checked them regularly as the day went on, they still looked good. The problem is the price tag. At £15.99 it's quite a whack to be paying for a mascara when there are so many other good cheaper brands out there. But if you're feeling flash and want to treat yourself, I say go for it. 4/5

Models Own Volumising Big Brush Mascara
Kerri-Ann RoperModels Own Volumising Big Brush Mascara, £5.00
Tested by: Kerri-Ann Roper, News EditorVerdict: I love mascara more than shoes, which is saying a lot. And I'm incredibly fussy when it comes to lathering my lashes, so this was definitely one of my favourite tasks to date. I loved this mascara, it gave my lashes a great, full look without being too clumpy or sticking my lashes together. My biggest (and only) gripe is that it's not all that easy to wash off, and it took two good scrubs before it stopped giving me racoon eyes post-cleaning. So, apart from that, I give it a 4/5.

theBalm Two Timer mascara
Suzannah RamsdaletheBalm Two Timer mascara (£17.50)
Tested by: Suzannah Ramsdale, JournalistVerdict: I practically have stumps for eyelashes - it's very unfortunate really - so a volumising mascara is always top of my make-up list. theBalm Two Timer has one brush for plumping and another brush for defining and seperating. The idea is great, but it didn't give me the great result I get from my usual brand. While it may be extremely water resister, clump-proof and non-flakey, the volumising effect was mediocre at best. A nice product but it didn't rock my world, or my lashes. It gets 3/5 from me. Stockist: Available nationwide
Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Outrageous Lashes
Rebecca CoxYoungblood Mineral Cosmetics Outrageous Lashes, £29
Tested by: Rebecca Cox, JournalistVerdict: I don't really wear mascara - mainly because the difficulty of finding a clump-free version and having to remove it at the end of the day seems too much hassle. But this mineral version by Youngblood may have just won me over. The delicate application brush and smooth formula glides on gloop-free and my lids don't feel heavy and clogged like they usually do. And how does it look? I look like I've got fake lashes on. Yes, my lashes are long, but with mascara they usually look like a dying tarantula. I'm seriously impressed. It might be double the price of your usual mascara, but you'll look at least twice as good. 5/5
